This is one of Spain's true artisanal gems. The original majuelo (plot) of Martínsancho is less than an acre of gnarled, ancient Verdejo vines that were planted in the 17th century.
Bodegas Angel Rodriguez Martinsancho Verdejo 2017, Rueda, Spain
PRESS: Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 90 points. "Light straw. Strikingly pungent nose shows an energetic citrus and herb personality underscored by zesty minerality; this smells like top-notch Sancerre. Crisp lemon-lime and quince flavors are finely etched and uncommonly concentrated, with a bitter citrus pith quality extending through the finish. Very pretty wine."
Producer: Bodegas Angel Rodriguez

This wine is always both juicy and textural. You get ripe citrus, preserved lemon and nettle notes, and some developing hints of honey, lanolin and grilled nuts also sneaking in on the complex, powdery-dry close. There's lovely texture in the mouth and the overall impression is of a sappy, zesty, stony wine.
